“Daylight” - Matt & Kim

I think this is one of, like… seven songs on the planet that can lift my mood from complete shit to a smiling mess. It might have everything to do with the fact that the line “These shoes are poor man’s ice skates” strikes this chord inside of me that I can’t even explain. It makes me think of when I was younger and I get this instant feeling of light youth. It’s like my insides just rise up into my throat and I am immediately back in Regina’s bedroom at age six, trying to join the barefoot Ice Capades.

I can’t really remember where I found this photograph. I probably stole it from someone’s journal, as I’m so fond of doing. I thought this would be a perfect beginning to this little project of mine. I kind of like the idea of writing your inspiration out in the public where someone can see. There’s always been this sort of romantic idea in my mind that the people finding these little hidden treasures in life are miraculously changed just by finding them. As a result, I’m constantly looking for them.

In my ever-constant and deep love for Dirk Mai, I just visited the BoxEight website. I rather like the blogging displayed on the homepage, but it was the redesigned Harry Potter covers that caught my eye. Naturally, I clicked the link to go to the artist’s blog and I was incredibly surprised by the artwork on the blog! M.S. Corley is incredibly talented. The above image instantly made me want to blog about it because Calvin and Hobbes were something incredibly important in my childhood and the artwork on the website is just beautiful. I know for sure that my dear horror fans will more than likely love his Horrors of Literature series (found here, here, and here). “The Red Death” is my favorite.

I am in awe of Courtney Beckett’s talent. She uses texture in a way that is unlike anything I’ve seen… ever. It’s not just this picture, either. Every photograph on her website is alive with color and texture and they’re all beautiful.

Regina. I’ve been thinking about her a lot lately. She’s my best friend and one of two friends that live in this city that I can really just depend on no matter what. She’s been given a conditional offer for a job in Fort Collins— a city that is just over two hours away. As I am without vehicle (sad state), it will become very difficult to see my best friend, should she get the job. In a way, my mind is preparing for this transition.

It’s not the first time Regina and I have spent a long time away from each other. The year after I graduated high school, I spent nine months in Laramie, Wyoming for school while she stayed here. We made it work then and I am very confident that we will make it work again this time. It’s just that thinking these things is unavoidable. When you have a friend you’ve known your whole life, it’s difficult being apart from them for any significant amount of time, even if you are happy for them.

If she gets the job, she starts July 8th. That’s just under two weeks. Ridiculous. Crazy. And exciting.

InElements - “Dot Dot Dot”

InElements is a local band that my best friend and I are sort of obsessed with. She knows the drummer and they’re all basically really great guys. Plus, they’re talented as hell. Also, the last time I saw them, they opened for Framing Hanley who, as many of you know, I am fucking obsessed with. Right now, InElements are on tour and I can’t wait for them to come back home and play The Black Sheep again because I know Regina and I will be there.

Also, this song talks about a dragon and includes the phrase “go fuck yourself”… both of which I back completely.
